Installed
in front of Vienna's opera house, a freight container is transformed
into a psychogeographical feedback device. Listeners operate
the device via email addresses and URLs. The sound generated
from texts is converted to midi information, fed into an installation
of synthesizer, drum machines and samplers at Public Netbase,
where it is mixed, and is then retransmitted to the container
as a Real Audio stream.
The
Society of Unknowns has established sound generation as a collective
cultural production. It uses noise for non-determined and uncontrollable
possibilities, and to confirm the limits of words.
