Australia considers a new policy which could make it a leader in
the race to bring telecommunications into the dark ages:
[forwarded from a local mailing list]
According to Electronic Frontiers Australia....
http://www.efa.org.au/
"in a submission to the Department of Arts and Communications
Telstra recommended that the nation have ONE service provider
as a means of regulating access to the Internet."
Source - Internet.au Apr 1996 p.37
[Telstra is the state-owned telecom company, until recently a
monopoly. I can't find the above information anywhere at the
EFA site itself; the words are quoted from the _Internet.au_
magazine, which lists EFA as its source. -mitch]
