ERIK DAVIS
Erik Davis is a San Francisco-based author, journalist, and
cultural critic. He has contributed to 21C,Wired, Lingua Franca, The Wire
and The Nation, but is best known for his work at the Village Voice, where
he has written about television, technology, music, philosophy, and the
subcultural landscape. Davis also writes regularly for Gnosis, a magazine
devoted to Western esoteric religious traditions. His essay "Techgnosis:
Magic, Memory, and the Angels of Information" appeared in Mark Dery's Flame
Wars, and he has lectured internationally on topics ranging from jungle
music to techno-spirituality to millennialist subcultures. He is currently
writing *Techgnosis*, a book investigating the occult, spiritual, and
religious undercurrents of the "information age" (Harmony Books, Spring,
1998).
